Ahh, 2024. After successfully dodging it for nearly four years I started the new year with COVID so that, you know, stinks. Even if it wasn't an incredibly severe illness for someone who was fully vaxxed and whatnot it absolutely sucked and I still don't like that we've all just sort of accepted that this is what life is like now. We could still be taking precautions and masking but the ship has seemingly sailed on that because, um, the economy or something.
Anyway, we're now a month into a new year and I feel I'm still not where I want to be in my life. I've been putting things off that I really shouldn't be putting off and I don't have much of a life to speak of, really, but at least I've had a lot of time to watch and play various things this month. COVID gave me an excuse to laze around even more than usual, so I guess I can thank it for that.
For starters I've written a number of things for this blog this month, from my continued progress through survival horror with Resident Evil Zero, which I followed up with Resident Evil: Dead Aim and Silent Hill 3, to my numerous end-of-year best-of lists. I had a post covering my favorite (then) new games of 2023, another on my favorite (still) old games of 2023, and yet another one detailing a bunch of stuff that for one reason or another didn't make either list.
They put Metal Gear stuff in Fortnite so I played a great deal of it to make sure I unlocked Solid Snake. They added a few items from the series as well (the cardboard box is neat and the not-Nikita is cool) but for the most part it's the same game it's always been only now it's got Solid/Old Snake and Raiden as people you'll occasionally run across. I still enjoy this game even if it is often a FOMO-ridden hellscape.
I'll obviously have more to say on this soon but I started playing Resident Evil Outbreak and it's another interesting spinoff. I wouldn't say it's great, but it has enough going on to keep me interested. I'll probably be following this up with its sequel instead of the next-on-my-list Silent Hill 4 because I'm not sure if these two games will be different enough to warrant two separate blog posts. Maybe I'll change my mind however.
