I played through (with one big caveat) Outbreak: File #2 and, well, it's more Outbreak. The story doesn't fully mesh with the original so I don't know if this is meant to be an alternate take on those games events or what, but excluding some quality of life changes by and large this is simply the first game with five more scenarios for you to run through.
I played this by myself on a PS2, for better or worse. |
If you liked the first game you'd probably like this, and if you sort of tolerated the first game (like me) you'd probably sort of tolerate this one too. Its scenarios are fun and varied enough, with each typically having some gimmick or unique mechanic to make it stand out. The first level has a zoo filled with zombified animals, the second has a subway system infested with giant bugs, the third is an abandoned hospital overrun with plants (and an unexplained ax-murderer who stalks you, for some reason), the fourth is set in the RPD station from RE2, and the fifth places you in an Umbrella lab. All in all I liked the variety even if some missions were more tedious than others.

I'm sure this would've been better with co-op but I played it solo and,
as it is, it's alright. Not bad, certainly not great, but decent. I don't have a whole lot more to say about this game if I'm being honest. It's more Outbreak. I already wrote a few paragraphs about that game and why I mostly liked it so you can go and read that if you want something more elaborate, but I think I may just call it here.
On a similar note I, um, technically didn't "finish" this game. I was very deep into the fifth and final scenario where for some reason, at the end of the final level(!), they introduce a new, unexplained
insta-kill mechanic that, well, led to my being instantly killed. I could replay
that almost-90-minute mission so I can fight the final boss and get a "you
win" screen, or I could stop there and cut my losses because I've seen (basically)
everything this game has to offer already. I've decided to do the latter.
With that out of the way, here are my victory screens (and one "you suck" screen because I'm too lazy to finish this).
