Is This Thing On?

So, it's 2022 and I think I might finally give this "blog" thing a shot.

Maybe it's a bit foolish to start one now, but I've been using Twitter as an outlet for my opinions for a while and it's always felt inelegant and a bit messy. I really enjoyed the opportunity to get into longer conversations on forums in the past, but with the Internet-as-a-whole's shift towards broader communities like reddit and Discord, I frankly just haven't had many opportunities to write longer-form things like I used to.

I'm not going to pretend I have anything particularly unique or outrageously provocative to say, but I do tend to have a lot of opinions on things I play and watch and it just doesn't make much sense to only have that stuff on Twitter, obscured behind years of retweets of memes and angry political ranting, effectively hidden to the point where even I have trouble tracking down things I wrote.

I've gone by a few variations on the same name on the Internet over the years, from "Minish Cap" to "Capshot18" to just "Cap", and while I've always liked the anonymity a pseudonym provides, I probably can't hide behind a fake-Internet-name forever so, for my purposes here, I may as well just use my first name. I'm still not sure about the name I've settled on for this place (I've gone back and forth a few times and this is the best thing involving the word Cap I could come up with) but a better name might never come up and I may as well just pick one and start.

With all of that out of the way, you can (probably) expect to see longwinded thoughts on games or other media I've experienced and want to talk about, and I've started by translating some of those inelegant Twitter threads I mentioned earlier into something a bit more digestible that I can host here. I've also backdated them to (roughly) when those threads were posted on Twitter, so that might explain why it looks like I've been active here for years despite the fact I only started this blog tonight.

2024 Edit: I've since changed their publish dates, so ignore the previous sentence.

I have no idea whether I'll stick with this, but a blog has been something I've thought about doing for a long while and, you know, now would be a good a time as any to start.
