What I Got Up To This Month (September '24)

Well, that was September. I had intended to work on some important stuff with my therapist but she cancelled on me with no notice so that, um, didn't happen this month. Still, I've been doing some work on stuff in my own time, doing what I can to better myself and it's nice to at least think about getting myself out of the rut I've fallen into.

Splatoon 3 held its final Splatfest this month so I found myself getting back into that game's multiplayer. I still need to push myself to play the singleplayer, since by all accounts it's every bit as good as the Octo Expansion, but I just haven't done so yet. There's also that Side Order DLC I want to play. This Splatfest coincided with a "Grand Festival" that featured all three of the series' idol groups taking turns onstage, with a new song that contained all three singing together. As someone who's grown to really love these games, I was getting genuinely emotional while watching them perform. It's all just so charming.

UFO 50 finally came out and I've been loving it. It's a game that essentially aims to be "Action 52 but good", a multicart selection of dozens of wholly new NES (style) games. It's really cool and playing it reminds me of when I'd browse Flash game websites, opening whatever struck my fancy hoping to find a new favorite. I've only touched sixteen games so far but I've already found a few I really enjoy, which is all I could have hoped for.

I made some serious progress on my horror trek this month. I finished both Resident Evil 6 and Silent Hill: Book of Memories, with the former being a fun co-op romp and the latter being a pretty mediocre dungeon crawler. I then moved on and played P.T., which I loved, Resident Evil: Revelations 2, which I also loved, Umbrella Corps, which I definitively did not love, and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (in VR), which I also also loved. I played a lot of horror games this month and that's only going to continue now that October's almost upon us.
